Volunteer Opportunities

Be Active!
  • We are currently looking for individuals interested in volunteering with our Be Active Program.  This individual would need to be able to commit to volunteering once a week for 3-5 hours, and participate in the activity (Going to the YMCA, rock climbing, etc). They would also need a valid driver's license and be willing to assist with transportation; we will cover mileage.  We are looking for individuals interested in making a 4 month, semester, or summer commitment. Provide mentoring:

  • Staff our community center in the evening (6-10pm) or on weekends (11-3pm).  Spend time with residents or other teens by listening, playing games, doing activities they enjoy, and being a positive role model. We are looking for individuals interested in making a 4 month, semester, or summer commitment.
  • Facilitate arts and crafts classes once or twice a week at our community center to our residents and other teens.  All materials provided. We are looking for individuals interested in making a 4 month, semester, or summer commitment.

Be a tutor:

  • Work one-on-one with students on an on-call availability. We are looking for individuals interested in making a 4 month, semester, or summer commitment.

Be a substitute for the resident assistant:

  • Fill in for the Resident Assistants by spending the night, weekend or holiday to give them a break!  Must be 21 and have a reliable car with insurance. We are looking for individuals interested in making a 4 month, semester, or summer commitment.

Be a host:

  • Host dinners/parties, etc. for residents.  Plan and host an event for residents (i.e. a cookout with games, bowling night, etc.).

Build kits for residents:

  • Provide welcome, household, and/or health kits to residents.  Welcome kits include personal hygiene items (i.e. toothpaste/brushes, deodorant, etc.).  Household kits include cleaning supplies (i.e. window cleaner, kitchen sponges, all-purpose cleaner, etc.).  Health kits include first aid items (i.e. adhesive bandages, first aid cream, pain relievers, cold & flu medicine, medicinal teas, vitamins and supplements)
Serve on a committee:
  • Fundraising – help plan events and fundraisers to support the mission of creating transitional housing and supportive services for youth experiencing homelessness.

Internship Opportunities

Administrative/Fund Development Intern

Stepping Stones, Inc is looking for professional students looking for administrative and fund development experience in the nonprofit sector.  The beginning of the unpaid internship is negotiable.

Primarily responsibilities will include developing marketing strategies to promote mission, identity and brand within community; create and cultivate relationships with community businesses, organizations, groups, and officials; and collaborate with board, staff, volunteers, and community partners in promoting Stepping Stones.  Fund Development responsibilities include grant writing, special event planning and participation and donor cultivation. 

A successful intern must be self-directed, able to work in an environment that involves energetic youth and interested in a career in non-profit administration.  Must be organized, have basic computers skills, proficient in Microsoft Office suite.  Preferences will be given to interns with a passion for fund development.
